9850 Softforming Edge Bander:How Integrated Handle Doors Are Made

01 / A machine built around the handle profile

Integrated-handle cabinet doors combine a decorative edge with a gripping surface. The profile is more demanding than a plain straight edge because the band must follow changes in direction without leaving unsupported areas. The LEADWOOD 9850 uses wheel-type soft forming to press edging material against a prepared handle profile. Its suitability depends on the complete combination of profile geometry, panel, adhesive and edge band.

02 / How the process works

Panel preparation establishes the handle shape and the surface that will receive adhesive. During conveying, the pressure system supports the workpiece while profile-following rollers bring the edging into contact with the machined contour. Tooling and roller settings must match the selected handle design. A successful demonstration should show the full cross-section, including the inside transitions and the ends of the door, rather than only the visible front face.

03 / Controls and adhesive configuration

The technical documentation describes PLC touchscreen operation and automatic lubrication. These support repeatable setup and scheduled care, but the operator still needs to check tooling, adhesive condition and the first finished panel after a changeover. EVA is the standard adhesive arrangement described for this model. PUR and EVA/PUR configurations are options to specify in the quotation; they should not be assumed to be fitted to every machine. Ask which glue system, cleaning procedure and consumables match your production.

04 / Where it fits in furniture production

The 9850 is relevant to cabinet doors and drawer fronts with integrated handle profiles. Different C-type, J-type or other grip designs must be reviewed against a drawing or physical sample. Similar-looking profiles may need different tooling or pressure arrangements. Edge band flexibility and thickness are especially important around a shaped edge; a tape that performs well on a straight panel may behave differently around a tight contour.

05 / What to inspect in a sample run

Provide representative panel material, the required thickness, a dimensioned profile drawing and the actual edging you intend to use. Inspect adhesive coverage, bonding through profile transitions, surface marking, trimmed edges and consistency across several pieces. Agree on acceptance samples and the final configuration before ordering. Feed rate should be discussed for the actual profile and process, since straight-edge and handle-profile operations place different demands on the machine.

06 / Plan the installation

The published reference lists a 9,500 × 980 × 1,840 mm machine, 4,200 kg weight, 39 kW total power and 380 V supply. Listed board thicknesses are 18, 22 and 25 mm, with 0.55–0.8 mm edge band thickness and 55–60 mm band width. There are four 100 mm extraction connections. Allow additional working space for feeding, outfeed, maintenance and extraction routing; confirm the final utility schedule with the selected configuration.
