Edge Banding Return Conveyors:Designing a Practical Panel Handling Route

01 / Look at the complete panel journey

An edge bander is only one part of the production route. Panels also need to be received, supported, returned and presented for subsequent work. A return conveyor line helps organize this movement around the machine. The LEADWOOD system is configured for the edge bander and workshop, so the starting point is a floor plan and a clear description of how panels should travel.

02 / What the conveyor contributes

The system receives and transfers suitable panels between handling positions using motor-driven conveyor sections. Depending on the project, horizontal, inclined and height-adjustable modules can form the route. The conveyor does not itself perform edge banding, and the edge bander shown in an installation photograph is separate equipment. Define exactly which transfer stages are supplied and which actions remain with the operator.

03 / Size the system around the workpiece range

Specify the smallest, largest and heaviest panels, including any delicate decorative surfaces. The belt width, support spacing and transfer geometry must suit those parts. A layout that works well for large rectangular panels may need a different arrangement for narrow or short pieces. Review the transitions between sections so panels remain supported and the finished surfaces are not unnecessarily marked.

04 / Match heights, speeds and available space

Transfer height must correspond to the adjacent equipment. The published examples include a height-adjustable module of 750–1,000 mm, but this is an illustrated option rather than a limit for every customized system. Conveyor speed and the return route should fit the actual edge-banding workflow. Leave access for operators, maintenance, electrical cabinets and emergency controls as well as normal panel movement.

05 / Construction and controls to discuss

The reference description lists aluminum-frame construction with PVC conveyor belts, speed regulation and a configuration-dependent drive-power range of 200 W–2.2 kW. Ask which modules and drives are included in your quotation. Review start and stop behavior, panel accumulation, coordination with the edge bander and any required interlocks. Electrical integration and protective measures need to be established for the complete installed line.

06 / Evaluate the layout with real production

Share a dimensioned workshop plan, the edge bander’s model and working height, panel sizes and weights, and the intended operator positions. Ask for a layout drawing that shows feeding, return direction and service clearances. Test representative panels through the full route and observe where operators still lift or reposition them. Assess throughput from the complete job cycle, not conveyor speed alone, and confirm the final load rating and utility requirements for the supplied system.

Discuss your production requirements.

Send your material, workpiece drawings, required configuration and destination country to the LEADWOOD team. Reference specifications are subject to the agreed machine configuration.
