Explore the LD680 workflow for curved furniture components, including the operations that still require manual assistance.

LD680 CNC Arc Forming:Grooving, Bending and Secondary Machining

01 / Bring several arc-forming operations into one workflow

Curved cabinet and decorative furniture components can require controlled grooving, adhesive application, bending and additional machining. The LEADWOOD LD680 combines CNC machining with supported arc-forming processes. Its value should be assessed against the exact component and material combination, rather than assuming that every curved furniture part follows the same production route.

02 / Different radii use different methods

The technical documentation describes grooving-and-gluing arc processes in the R5–R50 range and a smaller folding process at R18–R25. It also describes filled arcs at R5–R100 and internal arcs at R50–R100. These are process-specific reference ranges, not a universal guarantee for all substrates or thicknesses. Larger radii require configuration review. Submit a cross-section and material sample so the correct method can be identified.

03 / Understand the manual stages

For the filled-arc process, the documentation includes manual placement of the filling material before automatic bending and setting. For internal arcs, an operator assists with placing a prepared grooved backing panel. These tasks should be included in cycle-time and staffing plans. A useful demonstration shows the complete operation, from loading the flat panel through any manual insertion to removal of the formed component.

04 / Use setting time for additional work

The described workflow can use the forming or setting period to process features such as hinge holes, handle grooves and joining slots where the job and configuration permit. Coordinating these operations can reduce separate handling stages. Toolpaths, workholding and part access must be checked for the proposed component. Confirm which secondary operations are included in your programmed demonstration.

05 / Machine and control reference

The published configuration includes a 9 kW air-cooled spindle running at 18,000–24,000 rpm, an automatic tool-change arrangement with six tools, and a 2,800 × 800 mm working table. The technical note describes CAD/CAM functions and standard G/M-code support; confirm compatibility with your actual software output. Listed overall dimensions are 4,250 × 2,080 × 2,260 mm, weight is 1,860 kg and total power is 32 kW.

06 / Validate the component before choosing the configuration

Provide the desired radius, substrate, thickness, decorative surface, joining features and required tolerances. Inspect the formed radius, surface condition, spring-back after the specified setting period and the fit of secondary features. Discuss extraction, vacuum workholding, tooling and the listed 380 V/50 Hz electrical and 0.6–0.8 MPa air requirements. Final performance and configuration should be agreed from representative sample parts.

Discuss your production requirements.

Send your material, workpiece drawings, required configuration and destination country to the LEADWOOD team. Reference specifications are subject to the agreed machine configuration.
