Understand the three edge profiles, working range and sample checks for a mixed cabinet-door production schedule.

4500 Three-Mode Edge Bander:Choosing Straight and Bevel Edge Processes

01 / Match the edge process to the furniture design

The QM-4500 supports straight, combined bevel-and-straight, and pure bevel edge processing. This makes the profile itself the starting point for selection. A standard rectangular panel, a sloped gripping edge and a combined edge have different contact surfaces and finishing requirements. Send a dimensioned cross-section rather than relying on a product photograph alone.

02 / What three-mode processing means

The three modes refer to supported edge shapes. They do not mean that every profile can be produced without setup changes. Tooling, guides, pressure and trimming arrangements need to suit the intended shape and material. During a demonstration, ask the operator to show the change from one representative job to another, including the first-piece inspection. This reveals more about suitability for mixed orders than a long run of identical panels.

03 / Follow the workpiece through the process

Start with a panel whose dimensions and edge preparation are suitable for the selected mode. Adhesive and edge band must be compatible with the substrate and the final application. The workpiece needs stable support as the band is applied and finished. Examine bonding along both the flat and sloped portions of a combined edge, then check the ends and the transition between surfaces. A clean-looking long edge alone does not establish the quality of the complete part.

04 / The reference working range

The published specification gives 16–45 mm panel thickness, 1–1.5 mm edge band thickness and 20–70 mm band width. Minimum panel width is 150 mm and minimum supported length is 350 mm. Reference feed speed is 6 m/min. A small or narrow part should be assessed against both the dimensional limits and the ability to feed it securely in the chosen profile mode.

05 / Utilities and workshop space

The reference machine dimensions are 4,600 × 1,200 × 1,550 mm, with 1,080 kg weight and 13.3 kW total power. The documentation lists 380 V/220 V electrical options, 0.6–0.8 MPa air pressure and a 100 mm dust outlet. Confirm which electrical version is included, along with extraction and air requirements. Reserve additional infeed, outfeed and maintenance space beyond the machine footprint.

06 / What to request before ordering

Prepare your smallest and largest parts, common thicknesses, edge-band samples and the daily mix of straight and bevel work. Ask for finished samples from each required mode, the exact function list, a changeover demonstration and the operating and maintenance documentation. For a workshop with frequent short batches, ease of setup and reliable first-piece quality may be as important as nominal feed speed.

Discuss your production requirements.

Send your material, workpiece drawings, required configuration and destination country to the LEADWOOD team. Reference specifications are subject to the agreed machine configuration.
